5 Tips for a Simple But Productive Work Space

5 Tips for a Simple But Productive Work Space

Ever wondered how much time and effort you’ve put into making your home look and feel amazing? Chances are you’ve spent countless hours creating a space that you want to spend time in. If you’re now working at home, whether it be temporary or permanently, it’s super important to create a space where you can get work done. This style of work isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so you may as well get comfortable, right? – follow these few steps for a simple but productive work space.

However, for many of us who are now working remotely, the work-from-home space in your home has likely been neglected—working at the kitchen counter? Or maybe you’ve cleared a tiny section of space on the kitchen table between the kid’s schoolbooks and breakfast bowls.

1. Think Outside The Box

If you’re limited with your space, you’ve got to think outside the box a little if you want to successfully design a simple but productive work space.

Other than the classic ‘spare room office conversion,’ there are many areas that can work as a simple workspace. Think – Room corners, standing desks, window sills, cupboards, closets, wardrobes, heck, even a great over-bed desk can provide an awesome workspace (especially on those early Monday mornings). All these common furnishings and spaces can easily be turned into a simple but great work zone. You’ve just got to get creative and stuck into a little DIY!

2. Essentials Only

An amazing work from home space where you feel comfortable, and most importantly, productive doesn’t have to mean digging deep into your dollars and splashing out on the latest office furniture. You probably need less than you think at your desk. When you boil it down to the essentials, ask yourself, what do you need? A computer, mouse, comfortable chair, notepad, pen and maybe some stationery items?

Keep things as simple as possible. Not only will this make your workspace look better, but having little to no distractions around you will work wonders for your productivity.

3. Comfortable Seating

Having a comfortable seat is one of the most important factors when it comes to designing a work-from-home space. When you’re sat down for eight to 10 hours per day, the last thing you want is a chair that leaves you with agonizing back pain.

There are some great office seating options, but some of the best options are gaming chairs. The best gaming chairs are designed specifically for gamers who spend hours (or even days) at a time sitting down in front of a screen, so these chairs are a great deal better for having at your home than your standard office chair.

4. Lighting

Like with every other space in your home, you want the lighting to be nice, right? Beautiful lighting goes a long way in your home, and your workspace should be no different. Choose an area that has great lighting. The last thing you want is to be stuck working all day in an area that gets zero natural light.

One of the major perks in working from home is that you choose exactly where you want to work, so a place with natural light and fresh air makes for a great, hyper-productive zone to spend the working day. Desk areas in rooms full of windows are great, and if you can score some space facing directly out the window, you’re working with a view. Win-win!

5. Keep It Free of Clutter

We understand you want your desk space to look great. However, it’s easy to get carried away. You’ll likely want to fill any available space with as many pot plants, ornaments, and other forms of tech as you can. But just hold it right there!

Keeping our essentials-only theme (let’s keep productivity as the priority here), get everything you NEED, then if there is a little room left over, why not place a house plant or two there? Find the balance of a beautiful space that’s simple and limits possible distractions. When it comes to keeping your work from home area clutter-free, be sure to tidy—all the time.

Any papers, notes, books, cables, and tech that you don’t need at that exact time, put them in a different room or remove them from the space. This adds unnecessary clutter and distraction! It’s also super handy to organize any messy cables you have, which will inevitably build up in your workspace.

Summary – Simple But Productive Work Space

So, there we have it! Here are a few tips for designing a simple (yet beautiful and creative) work-from-home setup. You are going to be spending a lot of time in this space, so finding that balance of simplicity, productivity, and having a space that you want to spend time in, is crucial as we move through 2022. Working from home isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so you may as well get comfortable, right?
