Bedroom Design Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep

Bedroom Design Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep

Have you been waking up without feeling rested? If so, you’re not alone. A startling 27% of Americans report having trouble sleeping. What’s behind this lack of shut-eye? Believe it or not, the problem might be right in front of you.

What’s this mystery keeping you from feeling rested? It might be your bedroom. If you’re not careful with how you design your bedroom, you could wake up feeling more tired than rested. Let’s say goodbye to the bad nights of sleep and hello to change. Here are the best bedroom design tips for a better night’s sleep.

1. Get Rid of Work

Do you tend to let your work life overlap with your personal life? While there’s nothing wrong with bringing work home from time to time, keep it far away from your bedroom. Keeping your office in the bedroom is always a bad idea, and you should avoid doing work in your bedroom whenever possible.

The same goes for any household chores. Things like taxes, bills, and even piles of laundry shouldn’t be near where you sleep. All these do is remind you of your to-do list, and that’s far from restful.

2. Check Your Bed

How’s your bed holding up? Many people have the wrong type of bed for their body, and this leaves them feeling sore or achy the next day. Nobody wants to deal with that. Similarly, you might have had your bed for far too long, and the mattress is simply in need of an upgrade.

Don’t suffer from an old, worn-out sleep setting. Luckily, we’re in a bit of a mattress revolution right now. There are hundreds of different mattresses you can order online, bringing the comfort right to your door. From the best adjustable queen mattress to customizable features, there has to be something out there for you.

3. Choose the Right Lights

Have you given much thought to the lighting you choose for your bedroom? This is one of the most easily overlooked bedroom design features. Sure, the overhead light might be functional, but is it really helping you sleep better? Probably not.

Studies have shown that bright lights signal to your body that it’s time to wake up, and these could completely throw off your sleep cycle. Keeping a variety of lighting in your room, like an overhead, bright light for the morning and a dim, side lamp for nighttime, will do you a world of good.

4. Relaxed Color Palette

The colors you choose to design your bedroom will play into how you feel. Brighter colors might be exciting for the daytime, but they won’t help you unwind at night. Opt for neutral shades of your favorite colors to make you feel more peaceful when you’re preparing for sleep. These are also easy to match with your sheets and other accents.

5. Include Scent

Something that often goes overlooked in interior decoration is scent and smell. This plays a huge role in relaxing your body at bedtime, so it’s worth looking for the right scent for you. You can include candles, incense, or even an oil diffuser, just make sure to pay attention to the smells in your room.

What smells are best? While everyone’s a bit different. Lavender is the best go-to for unwinding at bedtime. Make sure your bedroom is a lavender filled space if you want a one-way ticket to dreamland.

Have a Better Night

Are you tired of feeling so tired? If so, it’s time for a change. You don’t have to do a complete overhaul of your bedroom to make your nighttime routine even better. Just a few design tricks will have you sleeping in no time.

Have you tried any of those sleep tips above? Did you know bedroom design could play so much into the way you feel in the evening?
